Rev. Al Sharpton is the featured speaker of Ohio State’s Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration to be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2015. 

Rev. Al Sharpton, host of MSNBC’s PoliticsNation and founder of the National Action Network, will speak at Ohio State’s 43rd MLK celebration at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14, at the Ohio Union, Archie M. Griffin Grand Ballroom, located on 1739 N. High Street.

Award-winning writer and author of The Evolution of Al Sharpton: The Provocative Politics of the People’s Preacher (May 2016), Dr. Jamal Watson and Ohio State’s African American Voices gospel choir will also participate.

"Teaching" 17 different classes in 5 different states at the same time? Felony theft of funds intended for summer interns at The Amsterdam News? Restraining orders taken out by 2 different women? Thank God, we are not condemned by our pasts.

The event is sponsored by Radio One; Power 107.5; WCKX; the Office of Diversity and Inclusion’s Hale Center, in collaboration with Columbus State Community College; and the African American Faculty, Staff, Student and Community Coalition. It’s free and open to the public and will kick off a number of activities leading up to the national observance on Monday, January 19.

Ohio State’s Pay It Forward program, which provides students with opportunities to serve the community, and the Hale Center have partnered to host this annual day of community service. Registration begins at 7:45 a.m. in the Ohio Union (Seletz.2@osu.edu or Perez.268@osu.edu).

Ohio State Student March for Freedom – Monday, January 19, 2015

Participants will gather at 3:00 p.m. at the Hale Center located on 154 W. 12th Avenue and march to the Ohio Union. Transportation will be provided to the King Arts Complex on 867 Mt. Vernon Avenue. The March for Freedom is sponsored by Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. (Johnson.4827@osu.edu).

Martin Luther King Jr. Blood Drive –Monday, January 19, 2015 

The blood drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in 101 Hale Hall on 154 W. 12th Avenue. This life-saving event is sponsored by the American Red Cross and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. (Cornute.2@osu.edu).
