Nick Cannon Will Live

Nick Cannon in an Aspen, Colorado hospitalNick Cannon, Nickelodeon Executive and host of America’s Got Talent, was admitted to a hospital in Aspen, Colorado while vacationing with his wife Mariah Carey and DemBabies.  Mariah tweeted earlier today that her hubby had symptoms of “mild kidney failure.”  But that didn’t keep the voluptuous one from crawling into bed with him and risking full paralysis of his right side.

In all likelihood, the health scare may have just been a distress signal sent out to rescue a black man and DemBabies from the side of a mountain.  Black people don’t ski, Mariah.  (That means you too.)

ABC News asked Dr. Giselle Guerra, assistant professor of clinical medicine at the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine, for a medical explanation.  While Guerra is not treating Cannon, she said he may have a case of acute kidney failure, also known as acute renal failure.

Symptoms of acute renal failure include nausea, weakness, sluggishness, and tremors.  In severe cases, the kidneys may stop producing urine.  People may also experience blood in the urine or foam (Yuck, what’s that?) in the urine.  Pain generally occurs only if there are kidney stones or an infection in the kidney, called pyelonephritis.

“Acute kidney failure happens suddenly,” said Guerra.  “Chronic kidney failure happens over time, often as a result of illnesses like diabetes or high blood pressure.”  Acute kidney failure can range from mild to serious.  Serious cases may require dialysis and may develop into a chronic condition.

Certain medications or other drugs or an obstruction that causes blood flow to the kidneys to drop, such as an infection or dehydration, are some of the various causes of acute kidney failure.

“If medication is the culprit, once the patient has stopped taking the medication and the medication wears off, over time, the condition may be reversed,” said Guerra.  “However, depending on how aggressive the damage, the condition may not be reversible.”

Hopefully, this was just an acute case of dehydration.  Nick tweeted recently that he was being transferred to a hospital in Los Angeles (where, presumably, Mariah will be excised from his hipbone).
